Brazil Baroque Hardwoods

Wood is an organic substance, and each species of wood has individual characteristics such as color, texture, and aromatic essence. The best quality wood comes from old-growth trees. Old timber is harder, more dense, and more stable than wood from young trees. It also tends to have fewer knots and structural defects. However, old-growth timber usually comes from ancient forests – a precious and threatened resource.

Brazil Baroque utilizes mostly reclaimed hardwoods, providing the benefits of old-growth timber without the environmental costs. Vast quantities of old-growth lumber can be found in old warehouses, buildings, bridges,Audemars Piguet Replica Watches tanks and other structures that await deconstruction and reuse. Our high quality furniture relieves pressure on overflowing landfills and virgin forests alike.

Humidity, Heat, and Hardwoods

Water is the major contributor to the weight of hardwoods. Brazil Baroque furnishings are handcrafted from vintage, reclaimed hardwoods that have been naturally dried over many years. For further curing, our factories use specially built kilns to carefully dry the hardwoods before our artisans begin transforming them into works of art. The centuries-old process we use is tailored to retain the quality of the hardwoods. To properly acclimate to different environments, there must be enough moisture for the furniture to achieve its sustainable relative humidity. This is easy to do, but it requires understanding of these precious woods and their respectful care.

The hardwoods that comprise our furniture continue to exchange moisture with the air, shrinking and expanding in response to changes in relative humidity. As with your own skin, solid hardwood furniture’s natural response to extremely dry air is to lose moisture and shrink a bit. Furniture pieces may part slightly, or a few tiny openings may appear on a solid wood surface. These characteristics will correct themselves as the relative humidity rises, and the wood absorbs enough moisture to expand slightly.

On the other hand,www.hollywatches.me your home’s relative humidity may become too high, and parts of your hardwood furniture may absorb excess moisture from the air and expand, perhaps causing drawers to stick. Once again, this will correct itself as your home’s relative humidity decreases. The furniture’s quality and sturdiness are not affected by these natural changes.

General Care

• The ideal condition for furniture is a stable atmosphere with relative humidity fluctuations of 40 to 70 percent, and a temperature from 60 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Operating a humidifier or putting a glass of water inside or underneath the furniture may help to maintain humidity.
• Avoid placing furniture directly in front of radiators, heat runs or fireplaces. Please do not expose hardwood furniture to continuous direct sunlight. Draw the curtains occasionally.
• Strong sunlight can also cause fading or other changes. If you leave objects in a permanent position on the furniture, uneven fading may occur.
• Always lift furniture to move it, never drag it; open and close doors, drawers and lids gently.
• When dusting, always lift lamps and other objects, don’t slide then across the furniture’s surfaces. When it has excessive dust, use a duster first. Afterwards, dust with a clean soft cloth.
• Use coasters to prevent spills, stains, and damage from hot dishes.
• Keep solvents, alcohol, nail polish and removers away from your furniture surfaces.
• Blot all spills immediately. Use a slightly wet cloth to remove sticky substances from the wood surfaces, whether painted or not.

Maintenance

• In most instances, you may maintain your furniture by simply dusting and rubbing it with a clean and dry soft cloth. Please do not use sprays of any kind. Dust often to remove everyday abrasive particles from wood surfaces.
• For our hand painted or wood stain finishes, wax and polish periodically with clear wax paste, i.e.: Johnson Paste Wax or Trewax, three times a year. Do not use chemicals or any other commercial cleaners on Brazil Baroque furniture.

Repair

• If you need to repair a scratch on our handpainted furniture, please contact us and we will send you a repair color kit.
• If you need to repair a scratch on a wood stained piece, please contract a furniture restoration professional for repolishing. In most cases, polishing removes all scratches on our furniture.
• Please contract with a furniture restoration professional to reassemble your furniture. We strongly advise this, due to the natural tendency of our hardwoods to shrink or expand.
• If you need small pieces of matching woods to restore you a Brazil Baroque piece, please contact us, and we will send the pieces you request.
• We recommend always using a professional furniture restoration.
